Augustina, or “Auggie,” is the cheerful and bright dental assistant team leader for Nampa Smiles. She was born in Fresno, California, and lived there until just before she started ninth grade. Auggie and her family moved to Idaho so her dad could teach English at Nampa High School, which also happens to be where Auggie met her husband. “I met my husband in high school, ” Auggie told me. “We started dating in our senior year. We’ll be celebrating our 10th aniverssary on Septemper 13th.”
Auggie and her husband have one little boy named Max. Max is 2 years old and loves Superman. “He’s always running around in his Superman cape,” Auggie says. When asked how she enjoyed speding her time, Auggie said she loved going out to eat and loved shopping. “I especailly love shopping for Max. He’s the most fashionable little toddler in the neighborhood. He looks great until he rolls around in the sand.”
When I asked Auggie how she began working as a dental assistant, she responded:
“Well, I started in nursing, and became a nurse assistant. I realized, “I… don’t really like this.” I worked at like three different nursing homes by the time I was done with it. “I just don’t think this is what I’m going to do,” I realized. I went to dental assistant’s school and I’ve been working as a dental assistant since then. I was always interested in the dentist and the work they did. I like that I get to be a professional. I like that I get to help people and I like working with people. Not just patients but the staff as well.”
